Christmas 2015 projects

I know it’s been a while, and as I’ve decided to try and keep a track of my projects through Ravelry, I’m also going to try and keep my blog updated with my projects and how they are going… I reaslied recently that my flatmate is completely disinterested in my craft unless it means cute presents for her…

I had a rather long list of people to make presents for at the last minute for Christmas. I found that by the time I got Christmas shopping that my budget was far too stretched to be able to buy anything for people, I had to raid my stash to make something for everybody.

Williams’ family blanket
I was invited to dinner with my friend’s family, as I wasn’t allowed to spend Christmas alone. I was working boxing day, so I coulWilliams family blanketdn’t go home to my own parents. I made a blanket for the family as one gigantic present.

Lil Sis Infinity Scarf
I made an armknitted infinity scarf, with this wool from Hobbycraft. I had the wool in a deep purple and white. 558634_1000_1_340The original design popped up on my facebook news feed, so I raided youtube and came up with this:

Gem’s Tassle Scarf & Pebble’s Scarf
I found a pretty design for a Chenille stole. I didn’t have any Chenille in my stash, so picked up the prettiest yarn that I had inย  my stash. I used this yarn, once again from Hobby craft, once in this varigated yarn, and again in coral. dscn0401_smallThe coral had the tassles from the end of the stole pattern, while the varigated was designed to be a bit of a plainer scarf.

Imogen’s Victorian Blanket

I found this pattern a long time ago and wanted someone to make it for. Baby Imogen is a recent addition to my flatmates extended family, and I thought that a present for that little piece of family would be a cute blanket.

I can’t remember where I found the pattern, but it was pretty cheap. I do remember that Cali Chic Patterns had lots of very pretty designs I just wanted to try. Really trying hard to remember when I found it.

I have recently discovered that Imogen has a sibling on the way, and they’re keeping the gender secret, so at somepoint in 2016 I have another to make in another gender neutral colour.

This was the picture that was taken midway through the project. I was making the blanket in another of the varigated WI yarns in Hobbycraft. This one was a set of blues and lilac.

Christmas 2015

I’ve recently realised just how bad of a blogger I actually am. I completely forgot about this blog until I went to update my raverly account…

So I find that I am going to be spamming my blog page with the xmas presents I’ve made this year

Knitting update

I’ve been deferred from University since Christmas, due to a lot of different things. I’ve found that knitting is brilliant for my stress levels.

I’ve managed to finish of the bigger sections of my throw. It’s all stitched together. It was wonderful to finally have this piece finished, and I figured it would be nice to stitch some of the pieces to for the middle.

I’m currently trying to stich a section which is a mix of the King Charles Brocade and the English Mesh Lace. I found some wonderful tutorials on New Stitch A Day.

When I began stitching the heart panels together I realised that the pieces didn’t make a square. When I’d originally been fiddling with the pattern I thought as all of the pieces looked square enough that they’d just make a bigger version of that shape.

Example of the English Mesh Lace Stitch

The pieces are just a little bit wider than they are long, meaning that when they were put together I ended up with a rectangle.

I figured if I found a couple of pretty lace patterns I could make the throw a little more even in it’s design.

I found both of the designs pretty, and they’re both designs are stitched over 8 rows. I’m finding that it’s making them bothย rather easy to stich at the same time.

April Update

I know I tried and failed at posting throughout advent, but I’ve still been knitting and baking.

I’ve recently been going through a baking slump. For some reason, despite the fact I’ve been doing everything the same, my cakes just won’t bake properly at the moment. I’m hoping to figure out what I’m doing wrong and fix it.

On the point of baking, I made a delicious chocolate Guinness cake over Christmas. I used the recipe from NIgella’s website:

It turned out to be a wonderful treat for all of those who I spent Christmas with.

I’ve been working away at my reading corner throw. While I’m not much further forward, I’m working on putting together a few lacy combinations for some of the centre pieces. And I’m in the process of learning the diagonal garter stitch for the edging; just hoping to be finished soon. A work colleague has described me as a ‘woman on a mission’ when it comes to finishing this piece.

December 14

It’s official, I can’t manage daily posts to my blog. Not even for the 24 days leading up to Christmas…

So to catch up on the past week, I’ve worked my ass off trying to make sure that everyone else is enjoying their Christmas parties (oh the joys of hospitality).

I finally got round to dying my hair: I’m a weird shade of reddy pink right now, I was hoping the red would fade out to an orange colour to match my roots a little better, but so far that hasn’t happened ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I attended a rather well to do Christmas Party last night, I think I did rather well in making good impressions and not embarrassing my date. It was an absolute delight to attend, and I managed to win a lovely bottle of Brut on the raffle.

And I’ve agreed to give one of my work mates a hand moving house tomorrow.

And last but not least…

My double pointed needles finally arrived, and I’m trying my hardest not to start playing with sock pattens until I’ve gotten my uni work sorted.

December 8th

Today I’m sharing some of the pretty things Mr Postman has delivered for my Christmas box. Continue reading “December 8th”

The best thing about a Sunday… the ability to *sleep* as long as possible. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sometimes I think an island would be wonderful x

December 5th

I know it’s late but I needed to finish work before I posted.

The gadget for my new toy arrived yesterday and today I got to play with it… I have a Fitbug Orb which I’m going to use to help me get healthy in the new year, I figured that over the Christmas period I’d find out just how much exercise I was doing at work. And Yesterday I got to try it out for the first time.

Last night, while busy wasn’t a usual night… I am usually running around a lot more considering I’ve usually got the buzzer so I tend to be running more plates instead of just picking up after people.

I managed to walk / run 3k last night ๐Ÿ™‚ I thought it was rather good.

I’m hoping to be able to increase this distance ๐Ÿ™‚
